Body Image

Why are we so hard on ourselves when it comes to body image? When I say we, of course I mean women. Magazines don't help either. Women all over try to measure up to a certain social and cultural ideal of beauty, not realizing that this is very damaging to us. In magazines they show these perfect hour glass figures; on the runway you see disturbing, unhealthy images.

We all want to look our best. I know I do... so much that I have Jillian Michaels kicking my butt 4-5 days out of the week. But I don't necessarily want to have a 'Barbie Doll' shape. I mainly want to be healthy, and of course tone my body. I've started to eat healthier, my exercise routine is consistent, and I do get plenty of rest. I'm guessing that's a start.

Developing a positive body image and a healthy mental attitude is beneficial to a woman's happiness and wellness. Because feeling bad about your body can affect how you feel and think about yourself as an individual.

So women....we need to learn how to love what we see in the mirror.

Moving on...here's what I wore today:

Target dress; HandM black shirt; sweater?; Target sweater tights; Payless booties; necklace my creation; Forever 21 belt; Fossil watch

Very chic! I love all black outfits. Not only are they chic but they really are slimming, too.

You are so right about how difficult it is to have a healthy body image in this culture. I have been on both sides of the scale so I know from experience.

The media makes it even more challenging. There have been way too many Photoshop of Horror stories lately, where women's bodies are distorted to the point of sheer absurdity. The most revent ones include Demi Moore, and a Ralph Lauren ad.

That's one nice thing about the blogging community because we support each other through thick and thin...literally!

Thanks for the comment. I love black outfits...but lately I've been trying to wear a little color. And I remember reading about the photoshop blunders! How crazy was that?

Hi Corie!

We women have to really work hard to accept our bodies. I personally battle against this. I can binge one day (the way I did just last Sunday) and totally go on an apples and water diet the following day. I make people go bananas around me. It's such a vivious cycle promoted by the media and the magazines we love to buy ...

I sooo love your outfit, by the way. It just ... flows! Those booties are from Payless?! I would've thought Gucci ... really!

Of course we must exchange links. I shall put you on my blogroll as well ... hold on!

@ Nina...I wish they were Gucci! lol

I defnitely agree with your top statement. I jsut started back at the gym, not to lose weight but for that feeling that I get after it. I hold my back straight, walk alittle taller, feel less sluggish. Just knowing that i'm healthy is what makes me happy.
You look great here lady!

I finally came to terms with my body image when I was 25, it was a rough 16 years since I thought I had fat calves at age 9 (le sigh).

Well at least you came in terms early...I just finally said, ok...I'll exercise to stay healthy but *sigh* I just came in terms.
