At 14???

Ok, so I just found out from a friend, that her teenage (14 year old) daughter is pregnant. My mouth flew open and I was speechless. My daughter is 15 years old...she's at the point where boys are starting to look cute to her now...but she considers herself a very goofy, geeky, uncoordinated type of girl who just isn't into boys just yet...whew!

What do you do when your young teenage child comes up to you and says they're pregnant or they got someone pregnant? I wouldn't even know what to say or think (outside of me knowing I'd probably catch a case)...I'd be sooo shocked to even hear something like that. Now, my daughter and I have talks, but there are some teens out there who will always mimic their friends and peers. I can only hope that the communication between me and my daughter will continue and that she will continue to think about other things than boys and sex.

As for my friend, she's very hurt and stumped. I couldn't even think of what advice to give her...which is unusual for me. I just believe this is something she and her daughter will have to get through together. So young...

I wasn't even thinking about boys or sex at 14 years old. I was too busy wrestling them...I was competitive; I always thought that whatever they could do...I could do better whether it was track & field, music, school work, it didn't matter. I always tried to outdo them; not try and have sex with them. I don't get it...

My lookbook for today:

H&M sweater; Old Navy skirt; JCPenny hose
Pin It Now!

I would be as speechless and as heartbroken as I am sure your friend is. Like I said before, the best way to keep the lines of communication open is to not appear judgemental or accusing. It has to feel safe for them to share things with you, especially the difficult things.

I love this sweater on you. And that last picture is too adorable. If only raising kids was as easy as raising dogs...

As for Ross, I go to different locations on a semi-regular basis. Going to Ross is the same as going to Goodwill. It is hit or miss, and you never know when you will find a treasure. And the other thing to remember is that each location gets in different shipments, so each store will have different stuff!

Wow, that must be really difficult for your friend to deal with...I have no idea what I would do, and you are such a great friend for being there for her, even if you don't know exactly what to say. I love how you talk about your daughter (I've been reading your blog for a while now) and you talk about her with so much love, respect, and understanding. It is quite beautiful! So great to have an open dialogue with her, you are #1 mom!! Oh and on top of all of that, you're style is great!! (love that sweater ;))

To everyone else...thanks for your comments on my outfit/sweater...I love it and now my daughter has it *sigh*

As for my friend...she and her daughter are dealing with the issue at hand. It's been tough for the whole family.
