As I stepped out of my car; walked towards the door of my local supermarket this morning, an older silver-haired woman was walking out the supermarket. When I heard, "excuse me!"
Conversation between me and this older woman:
Woman - "I've seen you come here on numerous mornings. You seem to never upset me with your style."
Me - (shocked) Thank you so much!
Woman - "How is it that you choose your everyday outfits?"
Me - I figure you shouldn't necessarily dress by age, but by how you feel, and also look the very best you can ...at whatever age you are.
Woman - "If you don't mind me asking, what is your line of work?"
Me - Commercial real estate
Woman - "I thought you would have been a personal stylist or something. Do you offer any styling consultations?"
Me - (wth?? seriously) Umm...no, but I'm totally flattered that you were thinking that.
Woman - "Here's my card. I have some friends, as well as myself, who could use a makeover. If you're interested in the job, please call me."
Me - (still shocked, waiting for Ashton Kutcher to come out) Thanks again. Let me think about it. This is something new. I've never been asked this before.
Woman - "Great! And I'm glad I'm the first to ask. Call me. We can negotiate a fair fee for your consultation services."
Ok, this was totally unexpected. Especially for a Monday morning. My Mondays are usually uneventful, depressing, and full of bad everything. So I glanced at this woman's card. She's an attorney for a law firm in Atlanta.
What an opportunity!!
You can imagine all of the thoughts going through my head. Was she serious? Am I capable of dressing a woman who is possibly 15 years my senior? I dress myself...I'm good at it. I've had years of experience doing so.
Besides this woman was impeccably dressed. She had on her Ann Taylor tailored skirt suit in black, her structured bag, and some beautiful animal print kitten heels. I'm more of a casual dresser. Even at work!
Not sure what to do. I can think of so many others who are definitely capable of doing this. The only other person I've helped dressed is my daughter. But I know what she likes. And she's a teen...sometimes their style is whatever goes.
I guess the only thing to do is call this woman up and ask her what she's looking for. What other questions should I ask? ...Help!
